TROUBLESHOOTING

Why is cured resin still soft?

A soft casting may indicate incomplete reaction, unsuitable conditions or an incorrect mixture.

Start with the label: Identify the exact product and do not assume another formula’s remedy applies.

What to check

  1. Verify ratio by the measurement method specified by the manufacturer.
  2. Check minimum curing temperature and elapsed cure time.
  3. Consider whether colorants, moisture or additives exceeded recommended amounts.
  4. Do not place a soft casting into service merely because the nominal time elapsed.

Before attempting a repair

Record the application time, approximate temperature, humidity, layer thickness and surface. Compare those facts with the current manufacturer instructions. If the material affects structural strength, electrical safety, pressure containment, food contact or immersion, contact the manufacturer before placing it into service.
