PROJECT TIMELINE

Refinishing wood: coat, sand and use timeline

Plan the job around separate working, recoat, exposure and service milestones. The exact clock comes from the product you actually use.

Project sequence

  1. Prepare the wood and remove incompatible contamination.
  2. Apply a controlled coat under the stated conditions.
  3. Wait for the recoat or sanding milestone, whichever applies.
  4. Add subsequent coats within the allowed window.
  5. Delay hard use until the finish reaches its use or cure milestone.
Do not add the times blindly: Some milestones run from initial application while others begin after a later coat or step.
